Back in 2021, our CEO, Josh, overheard a buddy talking about a gravel biking trip across the state of Montana (the GDMBR for those familiar), and he volunteered himself as a companion adventurer for a week.
There was just one problem: he needed the right kind of bike. It was too expensive to buy for his first trip and once he started searching, he realized there were no rental options that could streamline this type of adventure. So he borrowed one from a friend, disassembled it, shipped it to Montana, and waited half a day to receive it. It turned out the bike didn’t fit and it needed to be put together in his Uber driver’s backyard. After a 350-mile trek across Montana, Josh had to disassemble it, ship it, and reassemble it again to return to his friend's garage.
Was it still a great trip? Of course! Montana is gorgeous. But it didn’t need to be so difficult, so expensive, and so frustrating to get the gear. That’s when he got the idea for Quiptu, a peer-to-peer community where members could find and share the right gear, in the right place, at the right price. Quiptu equips explorers to focus less on the hassle, and more on the adventure.
Cheers,
